Save the High Park Zoo

There is a small zoo in High Park ... I go through it whenever I'm in the park.  It's not big or fancy but it has about 50 deer, bison, yak, emu, sheep, llamas, wallabies, West Highland cattle and more.  It's great for families with small children.

The City of Toronto wants to close this zoo so it'll save $114,000 a year.

The zoo, which dates back to 1890 when deer were kept in High Park, has only enough funding to stay open until June. If there’s no alternative by then, the zoo will close.

The City of Toronto has put out a public request for corporate sponsorship.  I hope some company applies.  $114,000 isn't a lot for a larger company to spend annually.

Whoever does this won't be able to charge an admittance fee, though.  The park was deeded to the city in 1876 by John George Howard on condition Toronto citizens always access it for free. Whoever runs the zoo would be able to charge only for guided tours, or for taking photos and gift items.

Aw, I sure hope that the zoo doesn't close! That would be such a shame :(
