Elephant & Castle, Toronto, ON

I had supper at Elephant & Castle (King Street W/Simcoe Street) this evening because TIFF Festival volunteers enjoy $6 house beers and a 20% discount on food (I volunteered again this year).

I ordered Manta’s Butter Chicken (curried tomato cream sauce with cashew butter topped with chopped cilantro & spiced yogurt, served with basmati rice & grilled garlic naan bread). It wasn’t great … the rice and naan were the best part. I wasn’t sure what kind of meat was in it at first as it looked like ground beef. Once I dug around a bit, I found chunks of chicken that seemed to be left over seasoned grilled chicken from yesterday.

I had supper at Elephant & Castle (King Street W/Simcoe Street) this evening.

I ordered Fried Chicken Tenders (buttermilk brined, hand breaded chicken tenderloins served with plum sauce & golden fried chips). The fries were tasty. The chicken was overdone as they were dry and tasted a bit burnt.

After Gord and I saw Fisherman's Friends: The Musical, we had supper at Elephant & Castle (King Street W/Simcoe Street).  There were lots of tables reserved and a large party in the back so we were happy to get a table.

Gord ordered Baja Fish Tacos (two crispy fried haddock tacos served in grilled flour tortillas with shredded cabbage, pico de gallo, chipotle aioli, cilantro and a side of hot sauce and served with a noble house salad).

I ordered Fried Chicken Tenders (buttermilk brined, hand breaded chicken tenderloins served with plum sauce & golden fried chips).

Both were really good.

Josh was our server.  He was friendly and chatty and took good care of us.

After the Blue Jays game, Gord and I had supper at Elephant & Castle (King Street W/Simcoe Street).

Gord ordered Crispy Chicken Sliders (battered & fried chicken tenders topped with house made slaw & pickle slices. served on a potato roll with creamy dill sauce).

I ordered Manta's Butter Chicken (curried tomato cream sauce with cashew butter topped with chopped cilantro & spiced yogurt. served with basmati rice & grilled garlic naan bread).

Both were good and we'd get them again.

It was fairly quiet when we got there but got jammed as more Jays fans arrived.  At one point, we could smell something burning ... it turns out one of the staff had gotten too close to a candle and her hair caught on fire!!  But happily she was okay.

Elephant & Castle, Toronto, ON

Gord and I had supper at Elephant & Castle (King Street W/Simcoe Street) this evening with my second cousin, Glenn, and his wife, Ann.  They are in town from Nova Scotia and we'd never met before (we're Facebook and Instagram friends, though).

Gord ordered the Standard burger (with no tomato) with a mixed greens salad.  He said it was a good meal and he'd get it again.

I ordered Manta's Butter Chicken.  It was good (it wasn't spicy).  There could have been more rice but I was happy that there was lots of naan.  I'd get this again.

Glenn and Ann both ordered chicken pot pie.  It looked really good!  They said it was tasty but it could have been hotter.  They said they'd get it again.

And here we are ...

Glenn, Ann, me and Gord

Erica was our server.  She was friendly and took good care of us.

Elephant & Castle, Toronto, ON

Gord and I had supper at Elephant & Castle (King Street W/Simcoe Street) this evening with Mary and Malcolm, Angela and Sox, and Lee and Rick.

I was in the mood for a burger so ordered The Standard (minus the lettuce, onion and cheese) with fries.  It was a good burger.  The bun was small and soft.  I don't know what the burger sauce was as it didn't have a lot of taste ... maybe mayo?  I'd get it again.
