One of the benefits of being a returning TIFF volunteer is you get invited to a complimentary screening of a movie that will be in the festival ... and you don't know what it is until it starts! This year it was Carolina Caroline, which was good. And there was lots of complimentary popcorn!
Friday, August 29
I picked up my volunteer teeshirt and lanyard.
It was a nice surprise to run into Donna, my old line dancing teacher, while I was volunteering at TIFF! She taught line dancing at the West End YMCA until COVID shut it down and then she moved classes outside on her street. It’s weird to see her after more than 5 years because I’ve been thinking about her lately.
Saturday, September 6
I ushered The Man In My Basement and got to see it. There was a Q&A afterwards with Nadia Latif (director and co-writer), William Mosley (author of the novel it was based on and co-writer of the screenplay) and stars Corey Hawkins and Willem Dafoe.
Sunday, September 6
I scanned tickets.
Monday, September 7
I ushered Origin: The Story of the Basketball Africa League, which was interesting.
An in-depth look at the transformative power of sport, as told through the creation, launch, and impact of the Basketball Africa League (BAL).
Former Raptors General Manager Masai Ujiri is involved and was part of the Q&A afterwards.
