A non-profit company has invented a vaccine that could cure malaria and save many lives.  They want to do test trials in the Brazil rain forest but someone is trying to stop that.  It's suspected that someone is trying to hack into the company's system, steal the formula and get it into the market first.  Lexi is known as one of the best in the business so is hired to find out who it is.  Slash has been forced to take a vacation so goes along with Lexi and the rest of the team to Brazil.  It's a welcome way to get away from all the wedding planning.

Of course, nothing goes smoothly and the team comes across drug runners, crooked government officials, pirates, kidnappers and more!

Though this is the twelfth (and latest) in the Lexi Carmichael series, it works as a stand alone.  If you want to know the background, though, you should read the others.  I've like the series and have read them all.

It is written in first person perspective from Lexi's point of view and third person perspective from Slash and other's points of view.  I liked the writing style and there was humour.  In addition to the usual hacking, there was lots of adventure around Brazil.  It's been interesting to watch Lexi grow from being a geek with just one friend, no life and no social skills to not only having close friends, a fiancé with whom she is now living with, but also confidence.

Lexi is a master hacker and director for X-Corp, an intelligence and security company. She recently got engaged to Slash, who is a government agent and fellow hacker.  Slash is lured to Italy because of something he did in his past.  He can't tell Lexi what it is as it's top secret.  Of course, she can't stay out of it so after hacking a bit, she heads to Italy to help him deal with whatever it is.  As Lexi and Slash travel across the country, they become involved with members in the Catholic church and discover that one of the priests may be Slash's father (he was found abandoned as a baby in a church).

Though this is the eleventh (and latest) in the Lexi Carmichael series, it works as a stand alone.  If you want to know the background, though, you should read the others.  I've like the series and have read them all.

It is written in first person perspective from Lexi's point of view and third person perspective from Slash and other's points of view.  I liked the writing style and there was humour.  In addition to the usual hacking, there was lots of adventure around Italy.  I missed the interaction she's had in the past with her best friends Basia, Elvis and Xavier (they were barely in the story).  It's been interesting to watch Lexi grow from being a geek with just one friend, no life and no social skills to not only having close friends, a fiancé with whom she is now living with, but also confidence.

It is written in first person perspective from Lexi's point of view.  I liked the writing style and there was humour.  There wasn't a lot of hacking but as usual, there was lots of adventure in the second part of the book.  It's been interesting to watch Lexi grow from being a geek with just one friend, no life and no social skills to not only having close friends, a boyfriend with whom she is now living with but also confidence.

Lexi is a director for X-Corp, an intelligence and security company.  She is a guest speaker at a hacker's convention and, while on a break, is mistaken for someone else and handed the code for a hack into a government agency.  Once the error is discovered, someone tries to kill Lexi because of what she now knows.  She tells her boyfriend, Slash, who is a government agent and fellow hacker, about it and they determine what the hack is about and try to neutralize it.  There is a mole in one of the government agencies so Lexi and Slash must run and hide.

While all this is going on, Lexi's best friend, Basia is getting married in a month and Lexi is her maid of honour ... which means she has to go with Basia to buy the dresses, plan the bachelorette party that is happening this Saturday, etc.  As a geek lacking in social skills, these are the last things that Lexi wants to do but she can't let her friend down.

Though this is the eighth (and latest) in the Lexi Carmichael series, it works as a stand alone as you are provided with background (though it does help if you've read No Room for Error).  I've liked the series and thought this book was okay (I've enjoyed some of the others more).

It is written in first person perspective from Lexi's point of view.  I liked the writing style and there was humour.  I enjoyed the non-hacking part of the story more as it was lighter and funnier ... like Lexi going with Basia to try on her wedding dress for the first time and attending the bachelorette party (needless to say, both are memorable).

Lexi's friends, the Zimmerman twins, have invented something that will revolutionize the computer industry.  They are still recovering from their injuries, though, from No Woman Left Behind so ask Lexi to take it to Indonesia where it will be manufactured.  Lexi, best friend, Basia, who also works for X-Corp, along with their boss, Finn, agree too take it.  Before they leave, there are a couple abduction attempts on Lexi so Slash is also going to go (but on a different flight).

During the flight, there is a hijacking attempt and Lexi, Basia and Finn are force to flee through the jungle after their plane crashes.  They don't know who to trust, obviously have never had to survive in the jungle and just keep hoping the good guys will find them before the bad guys do.

Though this is the seventh in the Lexi Carmichael series, it works as a stand alone as you are provided with enough background.  I've liked the series and thought this book was just okay (I've enjoyed some of the others more).  I liked the writing style and there was some humour.  It's pretty far-fetched, though ...  I had a hard time believing that geeky Lexi is now running for her life through the jungle.

It is written in first person perspective from Lexi's point of view.  I found there was a lot of focus on Lexi and Slash's relationship.  Instead of going with the flow, Lexi is researching and trying to hard to be the perfect girlfriend (she doesn't have the experience to know how).  I liked Slash better before he and Lexi got together.  Now I find him a bit too possessive and controlling and all they seem to think about (and partake in) is sex.  I miss the geeky Lexi, Elvis and Xavier.

So not my favourite in the series but I look forward to Lexi's future adventures.

Book ~ "No Woman Left Behind" (2015) Julie Moffett

From Goodreads ~ My mother's life goal has been to see me, geek extraordinaire Lexi Carmichael, happily married. So bringing my first boyfriend, Slash, home for dinner has me hyperventilating. Things get a lot worse when bullets start flying over our corn chowder. 

Now the entire alphabet soup of government agencies want my help finding the man behind the attack - Johannes Broodryk, a cyber mercenary I foiled on my last case. He wants revenge and he’s taken something of mine to ensure I’ll play, so it’s game on. But the government has its own agenda and Slash is not on board with the plan. Things are a bit bumpy in paradise. 

Although I'm more comfortable with computer code than commandos, I've been assigned a team of navy SEALs to help bring Broodryk down. The question is, will they survive me long enough to solve his cryptic puzzles and save the day? 

Lexi and Slash, a government agent and fellow hacker, have been dating for a while.  She finally gets up the nerve to bring him home to meet her parents (he's her first boyfriend) and someone starts shooting through the window during the soup round.  A memory stick is found in the kitchen which leads them back to Johannes Broodryk, who Lexi had foiled in No Test for the Wicked.  Broodryk is forcing Lexi to make the decision between saving a friend or saving her country.  Working with the Navy SEALS, Lexi hopes she can save them both.

Though this is the sixth in the Lexi Carmichael series, it works as a stand alone as you are provided with enough background.  I'm enjoying the series and thought this book was just okay (I've enjoyed some of the others more).  While I liked the writing style, I'm not into stories about cyber terrorism or Navy SEALS ... plus this one was really technical.  I found this and the last book were so serious and not as much fun as the first four in the series.  I had a hard time believing that geeky non-social Lexi is now roaming around Africa catching bad guys.

It is written in first person perspective from Lexi's point of view.  Slash and her best friend, Elvis, have a large roles in this story.  Her other best friend, Basia, and Elvis' twin brother, Xavier, are barely in the book.  I miss the interactions between Lexi, Elvis and Xavier because the three of them were so geeky and naïve.

So not my favourite in the series but I look forward to Lexi's future adventures.

Book ~ "No Test for the Wicked" (2014) Julie Moffett

From Goodreads ~ Returning to high school is not something I ever wanted to do over - it was awful the first time around. So why do I have to go back as part of a new undercover assignment? Because the universe loves playing jokes on me, obviously.

I've been ordered to go all 21 Jump Street and track down the students who are breaking into the computer system, changing grades and causing all kinds of havoc. Although I'm not thrilled about my new gig, at least it gives me something to do other than worry over the fact that I now have a boyfriend. And no freaking idea what to get him for Christmas.

Or it did give me something else to worry about, until I stumbled across a more sinister threat. I was shocked to find distinct traces of a group of international hackers inside the network. Why would dangerous cyber mercenaries be interested in a high school in the middle of Washington, D.C.? What exactly have I gotten myself into?

Students are hacking into the systems of an elite private school and the school headmistress hires X-Corp, an intelligence and security company, where Lexi works.  She decides to go undercover as a student to find out who the hackers are and shut them down.  Lexi hated high school, though, and isn't looking forward to repeating the experience.  Things get really tense when she stumbles upon terrorists and gets involved in life or death situations.

Lexi and Slash, government agent and fellow hacker, have started dating which is adding another layer of pressure on her because he is her first boyfriend and she is trying to figure out the rules of how to be a girlfriend.

Though this is the fifth in the Lexi Carmichael series, it works as a stand alone as you are provided with enough background.  I'm enjoying the series and liked this book but not loved it.  While I liked the writing style and was looking forward to the 21 Jump Street idea, I'm not into stories about terrorism and that took over the story.  I would have rather to have seen more of her awkwardly trying to maneuver around high school and focus on finding the hackers.

It is written in first person perspective from Lexi's point of view.  Her best friend, Elvis, has a major role in this story.  Her other best friend, Basia, and Elvis' twin brother, Xavier, are barely in the book as they are vacationing together in Greece.  Because the majority of the story takes place in the school, Slash doesn't have a huge role which is fine because I found him a bit irritating in this book as he seems to be so controlling and dominating of Lexi now that they are dating.

So not my favourite in the series but I look forward to Lexi's future adventures.

Book ~ "No Biz Like Showbiz" (2014) Julie Moffett

Okay, so it's not exactly as it seems but that's what's happening on the dating reality show called "Geeks Get Some" that I, geek extraordinaire Lexi Carmichael, have been called to work on. Not that I'm a fan of reality shows (I can barely deal with my own reality). Still, I've been sent to Hollywood to find a hacker who's screwing with the results of the show's online voting system.

So what happens when I get there? Well, the producers convince me to continue my investigation from the inside. And what should be an easy hunt for the hacker turns ugly when he sets his sights on me. Add to that a studio obsessed with ratings, a bunch of nerdy contestants, and my own confusing love life, and unraveling this mystery might make me a star … or get me killed.

There is a reality show called Geeks Get Some.  Like the Bachelorette, Lucy, a single bachelorette, has to pick from a pool of single men to find a romantic interest and possibly propose.  The twist here is that they are all geeks, including the bachelorette.  Someone is hacking into the system and rigging the votes and the bachelorette's and the voters' favourites are getting voted off.  X-Corp is hired to find out who is hacking into the system and changing the voting.

Lexi has exceptional hacking and math skills and works for X-Corp, an intelligence and security company.  Lexi is assigned to the case and heads off to Hollywood to work with the show's IT department.  When Lucy leaves the show, Lexi is forced to get even more involved, which is very much out of her comfort zone since she has zero people skills.

In the meantime, she feels she has to choose between a relationship with Finn, her boss, or Slash, the hot government agent/hacker.

Though this the fourth in the Lexi Carmichael series, it works as a stand alone as you are provided with enough background.  I enjoyed it and I'm enjoying this series.  I liked the writing style and found it funny as Lexi gets in some awkward social situations.  It is written in first person perspective from Lexi's point of view.

Book ~ "No Place Like Rome" (2013) Julie Moffett

From Goodreads ~ Italy might seem like a long way to go to hide after a disastrous date. But when sexy uberhacker Slash (no, that's not his real name) asks me to go with him to Rome on an investigation, the timing is sort of perfect. My messed-up love life becomes the least of my worries, though, after the dead body, the near-kidnapping and the discovery of a top secret encrypted file that even I can't hack.

With time running out, there's only one thing to do: call in the legendary Zimmerman twins and my best fluent-in-Italian friend, Basia, to crack the code. Now if only someone could help me solve the mystery of whether Slash is flirting or if all the kissing is just one of those "when in Rome" things.

But when we finally uncover the secret someone would kill to keep, it's up to me to solve the case and save the lives of my best friends.

Just another week in the life of geek-girl Lexi Carmichael.

Lexi has exceptional hacking and math skills and works for X-Corp, an intelligence and security company.  Slash is a government agent and fellow hacker and his uncle has been accused of money-laundering at the Vatican Bank, where he works, of about 18 million euros.  Slash hires X-Corp to find out what's going on and Lexi goes to Rome with him to investigate.

Lexi finds an encrypted file on the computer of an employee of the bank and sets out to hack into it.  Even with her and Slash working on it, they can't get into it.  So they send for Elvis and Xavier, the Zimmerman twins, who are genius hackers, and Basia, Lexi's best friend, who is a translator and the opposite of Lexi (far from geeky).  Eventually they are in and the file leads them to a dangerous and creepy destination.

Throughout all this, Slash has made it clear that he likes Lexi (and she likes him), which she finds confusing since he is handsome and sexy and she's not.  Plus she has feelings for her boss, Finn, which seems to be reciprocated.  Lexi hasn't had a lot of experience with men so is fumbling around, unlike Basia who is dating Xavier but also is seeing other men.

Though this is the fourth in the Lexi Carmichael series (there are currently seven in the series and the fourth one I've read), it works as a stand alone as you are provided with enough background.  I enjoyed it and I'm enjoying this series.  I liked the writing style and found it funny as Lexi gets in some awkward social situations.  It is written in first person perspective from Lexi's point of view.

Lexi used to work for a government agency and has exceptional hacking and research skills.  Finn Shaughnessy, a lawyer she'd recently met, has started an intelligence and security company and hired Lexi.  Their first case is an employer who wants to find his employee Darren, a genius researcher, who has disappeared.  Lexi has no idea who Darren is but for some reason he has left clues pointing to Lexi.

Though this is the second in the Lexi Carmichael series (there are currently seven in the series and the third one I've read), it works as a stand alone as you are provided with enough background.  I enjoyed it and I'm enjoying this series.  I liked the writing style and found it funny a lot of the time.  It is written in first person perspective from Lexi's point of view.

Lexi is a 25-year-old socially-awkward computer geek who has a small circle of friends.  Elvis and Xavier, the Zimmerman twins, are multi-millionaire geniuses who help her with hacking to try and find Darren.  Basia is Lexi's best friend.  She is pretty and petite (the opposite of Lexi) and into shopping and guys and is always trying to help Lexi be more feminine and girly (which Lexi protests).  Slash is a government agent who has a thing for Lexi and keeps popping up when she least expects him.  Lexi is attracted to Finn, her boss, and thinks he's attracted to her.  Finn is handsome, Irish and rich.  Since Lexi lacks confidence and social skills, Basia helps her with this, hoping she'll land Finn.   Well, it doesn't go as planned on numerous occasions (but with funny results) but it's not a big surprise since it is Lexi after all.

Book ~ "No Money Down" (2012) Julie Moffett

From Goodreads ~ Me and the legendary Zimmerman twins - it's a friendship made in geek heaven. And it all started back when I worked for the NSA.

My best friend, Basia, dragged me to the beach for her idea of a vacation. All those annoying people, sand in embarrassing places - not exactly R & R for a girl who doesn't like the sun, the ocean or bathing suits. I couldn't wait to get back to work.

But things started looking up when I ran into Elvis and Xavier Zimmerman. We discovered we had a lot in common: gaming, anchovies, hacking. After that, the vacation was perfect - until I accidentally broke some poor guy's fingers. Then Broken-Fingered Guy disappeared and things got really dicey. With the Secret Service and a bunch of thugs suddenly after me, all I wanted was to solve the mystery and enjoy what was left of my vacation - preferably alive.

Computer geek Lexi is on vacation with her friend, Basia.  Basia loves nothing better than to chill on the beach.  Lexi finds it to be torture since she doesn't like the sun or sand and she has to be in a bathing suit but mostly because Basia made her leave her computer home.  It becomes more enjoyable when Lexi meets Elvis and Xavier Zimmerman who she considers to be the Kings of Geeks.  It turns out they work for the same government agency as she does and they are experts in gaming.

Then Lexi meets a guy in the lobby bar who was sobbing because his computer kept locking up.  Lexi is able to fix it in two minutes (and breaking two of his fingers in the process) and he ends up confiding his secret to her ... which puts the Secret Service and some killers on her tail.

I liked Lexi.  She is a 25-year-old socially-awkward computer geek whose mother is always trying to set her up with prospective rich husbands.  Basia and the Zimmerman twins are lively supporting characters.

I liked the writing style and found it amusing at times.  The story was interesting.  It is written in first person perspective from Lexi's point of view.

This is the prequel to No One Lives Twice, which I read last month.  It is part of the Lexi Carmichael series (there are currently seven in the series).  I like getting into series and am looking forward to getting caught up on this series.  Though it is part of a series, it works as a stand alone so you don't have to read the first one to get caught up, especially since this is the prequel to the first one (I've only read the first one).

Lexi is a computer geek who works for the National Security Agency (NSA) tracking and trying to stop computer hackers.  One night on her way to dinner at her parents', she is accosted by a thug with a gun demanding a package Basia, her best friend, had supposedly given her.  What package?  When she gets home that night, there is another thug in her apartment demanding the same package.  She discovers the package was delivered to her neighbour,  Inside the package is what looks like a basic contract so Lexi is confused as to what the big deal is.

Lexi enlists the help of computer geeks, the Zimmerman twins (Elvis and Xavier).  They eventually figure out that the contract isn't just a basic contract and Lexi tries to find and save her best friend who is in danger.  The Zimmerman twins ask an even smarter but mysterious computer geek named Slash for help and he becomes protective of Lexi.  Lexi is approached by a lawyer named Finn who also wants to find Basia because he said he had asked her to translate the contract and now she's disappeared.

This is the first book I've read by this author and I liked it.  I liked the writing style and found it amusing at times.  I thought the main plot was interesting but wasn't crazy about the terrorist angle.  It is written in first person perspective from Lexi's point of view.

I liked Lexi.  She is a 25-year-old socially-awkward computer geek whose mother is always trying to set her up with prospective husbands.  This why she doesn't have a cell phone ... she doesn't want her mother to be able to reach her all the time.  I found this to be unbelievable considering Lexi is 25, works with technology and everyone in that age range (even in 2010 when the book was written) has a cell phone.  When she is given one, she has no idea and has to ask someone how to use it.  There were lots of lively supporting characters and I was able to keep them all straight except for two ... because their names both started with "Al-", I had to keep pausing to remember which was the rich prince and which was the terrorist.

This is the first in the Lexi Carmichael series (there are currently seven in the series).  I like getting into series and enjoyed this one enough to want to check out the next one.
