Book ~ "Whiskey Lullaby" (2020) Liliana Hart

From Goodreads ~ Addison Holmes has her hands full. Marriage changes a woman and pregnancy hormones are no joke. But despite her promise to retire from dangerous P.I. work, she has no choice but to take this case.

Twenty years ago, her father and his partner cracked the case of their careers. But it was all a set-up. They sent the wrong men to prison and now it's time for the real culprits to tie up loose ends. Her father is dead but his partner, who happens to be her mom's new husband, is very much alive. At least for the time being.

Discovering the truth is no easy task, but saving her father's legacy and her step-father's life is her top priority. Because family means everything.

Until recently, Addison Holmes worked at her friend, Kate's detective agency.  She and Nick, a police officer, recently got married and she is pregnant.  Kate is shutting down her detective agency and looking for other opportunities.

Vince, Addison's stepfather, has disappeared.   Her mother suspects he is having an affair when she finds a woman's phone number.  She asks Addison to check things out.  Vince and Charlie, Addison's late father, were former police officers.  There was one case 20 years ago that didn't seem right so Charlie continued to investigate.  It turns out that Vince has now picked up where Charlie left off before his death and there's no other woman ... he's just hunting down clues.  As Addison tries to find Vince, she has the help of her best friends, Kate and Rosemary, and her eccentric great aunt, Scarlett.

It was a light fun book to read.  It is written in first person perspective from Addison's point of view.  I liked the writing style ... it was amusing.  There is some minor swearing.

Though it is the seventh in the Addison Holmes series (I've read them all), it works as a stand alone.  It had been a few years since I'd read the sixth one so it took a while for the characters and relationships to come back to me.

Book ~ "Whiskey and Gunpowder" (2018) Liliana Hart

From Goodreads ~ Something old,
Something new,
Something borrowed,
Something ... bedazzled?

In twenty-four hours, Addison Holmes will be a married woman. Maybe.

A week to plan a wedding in the south is not for the fainthearted but Addison (along with the help of her neurotic mother, unreliable sister and unpredictable Aunt Scarlet) are determined to pull it off.

There’s just one problem. Okay ... two problems.

Problem #1: The preacher is missing.

This seems like a bad omen to Addison and all the best investigators she knows are taking part in the pre-wedding festivities (that’s code for drunk).

That leaves one man for the task: FBI Special Agent Matt Savage. But Addison isn’t sure he’s the man for the job. She and Savage have a complicated history and Savage could make the preacher disappear forever if it served his own agenda.

Problem #2: Rosemarie Valentine is in charge of booking the bridal party for a spa day. Enough said.

Addison Holmes is a former high school history teacher who is now a working at her friend, Kate's detective agency.  She and Nick, a police officer, recently got engaged and he wants to get married in a week's time.  So Addison has to solve her outstanding cases so she can take off for a few weeks on her honeymoon in addition to planning her wedding.  Not an easy thing to do but she does have the help of her best friends, Kate and Rosemary, her mother and her great aunt Scarlett.

Some of the cases Addison has outstanding include a wife who suspects her husband is having an affair because he takes their dog for a walk for a couple hours three times a week and is gone for a while and a preacher who has a stalker.

It was a light fun book to read.  It is written in first person perspective from Addison's point of view.  I liked the writing style ... it was amusing.

This is the sixth book I've read by this author and I enjoyed it.  Though it is the sixth in the Addison Holmes series (I've read them all), it works as a stand alone.  I'm assuming this is the last of the series since everything had a conclusion.  It was a fun series and it's good that the author chose to end it while it was still enjoyable.

Book ~ "Whiskey Tango Foxtrot" (2016) Liliana Hart

From Goodreads ~ Addison sets out to discover who stole a kidney from her newest client - a kidney that was still very much attached to its owner when it was taken.

With her brand new P.I. license in hand, a marriage proposal on her mind, and Aunt Scarlet and Rosemarie as backup, nothing could possibly go wrong.

Former high school history teacher, Addison Holmes, recently got her PI license and is now working at her friend, Kate's detective agency.  The case she has been assigned to is that of a lawyer who woke up in a bathtub full of ice missing a kidney.  Everyone agrees the guy deserved it since is isn't a very nice guy.

Addison needs wheels so she takes a tip from a fellow PI and buys a van from a "broker" named Ugly Mo.  She can't afford the full price so he hires her to see if his wife is hanging out with his competitor.  Addison's friend, Rosemarie, who is a teacher, and Addison's 90-year-old Aunt Scarlet help her out with the investigations.

In the meantime, Nick, a police officer, who Addison has been dating, has recently proposed.  Though she's in love with Nick, she is hesitant to get married because she'd caught her former fiancé fooling around on her wedding day just before the ceremony.

This is the fifth book I've read by this author and I liked it.  Though it is the fifth in the Addison Holmes series (I've read them all), it works as a stand alone. It was a light fun book to read.  It is written in first person perspective from Addison's point of view.  I liked the writing style ... it was amusing.  There were some typos and grammatical errors (I've found that will all her books) and inconsistencies (for example, Addison gets a short haircut and comments she hasn't had it styled since high school yet in the last book, she did).  As a head's up, there is swearing and adult activity.

Book ~ "Whiskey, You're the Devil" (2014) Liliana Hart

From Goodreads ~ Things are looking up for Addison Holmes. She's about to take her P.I. exams, she's living in sin with the man of her dreams and she hasn't had a phone call from her mother in three whole days. But she should have known things were too good to last.

When Rosemarie Valentine's fingerprints are found on the murder weapon used to kill a sex shop owner, it's up to Addison and the gang to clear her name before Rosemarie is thrown in the pokey with no hope of getting out again.

With the help of Nick, Savage, Kate, and Addison's mom and sister, what could possibly go wrong?

Addison is working part-time at her friend, Kate's detective agency, and studying and training to become a full-time PI.  Kate said, against her better judgement, that if Addison finishes in the top of her class, she'll hire her on full-time.  The case she is working on involves the theft of a replica of the Star Trek Enterprise.  Kate suspects the owner, Spock, who is Addison's former neighbour and friend, is trying to scam for the insurance money.  Spock asks Addison to find the replica and points her in the direction of who he is sure stole it.

Nick, a police officer, and Addison have been dating on and off and are now living together.  But that doesn't stop FBI Agent Savage, who is attracted to her, from trying to entice her away.

Rosemarie, Addison's friend, has been arrested for the murder of a former porn star and now owner of an sex shop.  As crazy as Rosemarie is, Addison doesn't think her friend is capable of murder and tries to find out who did it.  This mystery wraps up very quickly at the end.  I was buying the whodunnit but it didn't make sense why the victim had involved Rosemarie in the first place.

This is the fourth book I've read by this author and I liked it.  Though it is the fourth in the Addison Holmes series, it works as a stand alone. It was a light fun book to read.  It is written in first person perspective from Addison's point of view.  I liked the writing style ... it was amusing.  There have been typos and lazy grammar in the previous books but this one was really bad ... the editing could have been a lot tighter.  As a head's up, there is swearing and adult activity.

I look forward to reading the rest in this series in addition to other books by this author.

Book ~ "Whiskey Sour" (2013) Liliana Hart

From Goodreads ~ The Private Investigator's Handbook

Rule #1: Don't break the law
Rule #2: See Rule #1

And then there's Addison Holmes, who makes up her handbook as she goes along.

Addison is licensed to carry and she means business. The only thing getting in her way is a sexy detective, a neighborhood watch from hell, a dead billionaire, a black market sperm bank and a long lost heir.

Piece of cake.

Addison is a former high school history teacher who is now working part-time at her friend, Kate's detective agency.  She is studying and training to become a full-time PI.  Her cases include the search for a missing old woman (she has changed her name and moved into a different senior's home), a billionaire who is dying and wants to find his only heir (the product of a sperm donation in the 1940s) and a wife suspected of cheating.  Because of a prior case, Addison is being threatened by a killer who won't hesitate to use his hatchet.

Nick, the police officer Addison had been dating but who broke up with her because of her job, is hanging around her again.  FBI Agent Savage is her neighbour and is pursuing her.  While she is attracted to Savage, her heart still belongs to Nick.

Addison has recently moved (she was living with her mom who had recently remarried) and is pressured into joining the neighbourhood watch, complete with teeshirts, theme songs and strange characters.  Rosemarie, her friend and a teacher, has randy boyfriend.  Phoebe, Addison's older sister, has recently moved home and is staying with her.

This is the third book I've read by this author and I liked it.  Though it is the third in the Addison Holmes series, it works as a stand alone. It was a light fun book to read.  It is written in first person perspective from Addison's point of view.  I liked the writing style ... it was amusing.  As a head's up, there is swearing and adult activity.

I look forward to reading the rest in this series in addition to other books by this author.

Book ~ "Whiskey Sour" (2013) Liliana Hart

From Goodreads ~ Addison Holmes is at it again. When priceless Russian gems are stolen on their way to Savannah and the courier is murdered, all the clues lead to back to an escort service that seems above reproach. But looks can be deceiving.

Throw in a sexy detective and a dangerous FBI agent, and Addison finds out very quickly that she's in way over her head. But nothing is going to stop her from getting her man.

Addison has been working part-time at her friend, Kate's detective agency.  Kate has been hired to help find out what happened to some stolen jewels that a designer had bought in an auction but never received and the murder of the courier who was transporting the jewels.  Because Addison doesn't come across as an experienced investigator (because she isn't), she is brought in as part of the investigation.

In the meantime, Addison and Nick, the police officer involved in this case, are trying to figure out where they stand in their relationship ... or determine if they even have one.  And he's not all that crazy about her working with FBI Agent Savage, who has made it clear that he is attracted to Addison.

This is the second book I've read by this author and I liked it.  Though it is the second in the Addison Holmes series, it works as a stand alone. It was a light fun book to read but I found the whodunnit a bit of a stretch.  It is written in first person perspective from Addison's point of view.  I liked the writing style ... it was amusing.  As a head's up, there is swearing and adult activity.

I liked the characters.  I think it's great that Addison has a bit of a cool mom (she's a widow in her fifties).  As I said, Addison and Nick are trying to figure things out but it seems like all they do is have sex wherever and whenever they are together.  They don't talk a lot or go out on dates.  Addison actually wonders at one point whether they are just "f### buddies" (her words, not mine).

I look forward to reading the rest in this series in addition to other books by this author.

Book ~ "Whiskey Rebellion" (2012) Liliana Hart

From Goodreads ~ My name is Addison Holmes and I teach history at James Madison High School in Whiskey Bayou, Georgia. You might be under the assumption that my life went to the dogs when my fiance left me at the altar for the home economics teacher, or when I got notice that my apartment building was going to be condemned, or even when I was desperate enough to strip to my unmentionables to earn some extra cash.

The truth is that I'm pretty much used to disasters following me around on a daily basis but I could have gone without finding my principal dead in the parking lot of a seedy gentlemen's club. After the initial shock of finding my first dead body, which included throwing back shots of Jack Daniels like it was water, I decided to take stock of my life.

I was in a desperate situation and if the school board ever found out I'd been a stripper, even a bad stripper, I'd be jobless as well as fiance-less and homeless. Fortunately, I had a friend who felt sorry enough for me to give me a job doing some surveillance work at her detective agency. Not to mention the fact that I was now able to stick my nose into other people's business for a good cause, find a murderer and pick up helpful tips from an incredibly attractive detective. Come check out my story and be thankful your life is relatively normal.

Addison is a 30-year-old high school history teacher.  The building she is living in has been condemned and she has sixty days to find a new home.  She has her eye on a house but she needs a bit more money for the down payment.  So she gets a part-time job as a stripper ... and then discovers after the first and only dance that she is a lousy stripper and is fired.  But not before the principal of her school sees her.  Moments later she discovers him murdered in the parking lot.

Addison's friend, Kate, owns a detective agency and hires her to do surveillance work take pictures of cheating spouses and people trying to rip off insurance companies with false claims.  Addison has more competence doing this and considers getting her PI license.

In the meantime, there is a mutual attraction between Addison and Nick, the police officer in charge of investigating the murder.

This is the first book I've read by this author and I liked it.  It was a light fun book to read and there was an interesting mystery.  It is written in first person perspective from Addison's point of view.  I liked the writing style ... it was funny, silly and amusing.  As a head's up, there is swearing and adult activity.

The editing could have been tighter, though, as there were some typos.  Plus at one point, Addison is talking with Nick but then it was Greg talking (he wasn't there and Addison and Nick were talking about Greg).  There was a lot of build-up to Addison going out on a blind date one night but there was no mention of it the next day.

I like reading books in a series and this is the first in the Addison Holmes series.  I look forward to reading the others in this series in addition to other books by this author.
