"OVO", Cirque Du Soleil, Etobicoke, ON

Gord and I went to this afternoon's performance of Cirque du Soliel's OVO.

Love in the Insect World

In OVO, an awkward, quirky insect discovers a magnificent ladybug in a bustling neighborhood, and they instantly fall in love. Their enchanting romance unfolds amidst a vibrant ecosystem, revealing a world filled with energy and life.

Here, insects work, eat, flutter, and play in a riot of motion, showcasing the beauty and biodiversity of their hidden universe.

I’ve seen many Cirques over the years and thought this one was just okay. It's in an arena rather than a big top tent. There didn't seem to be as many WOW performances in this one. The costumes and set were really colourful.

We couldn't say "no" to the photo opp!

Inside you can buy drinks, food and souvenirs.

"ECHO", Cirque Du Soleil, Etobicoke, ON

Gord and I went to this evening's performance of Cirque du Soliel's ECHO.

Fuelled by the power of invention, the hope of the youth and the importance of empathy, Cirque du Soleil ECHO invites the audience to participate in a universe of colour, wonder and infinite possibilities.

I’ve seen many Cirques over the years and as usual, I didn’t have a clue what the story was but the performers were fabulous!

"KOOZA", Cirque Du Soleil, Etobicoke, ON

Gord and I went to this afternoon's performance of Cirque du Soliel's KOOZA.

KOOZA is an innovative journey viewed through the perspective of The Innocent, an endearing yet naïve clown looking for his place in the world. A mystery item is delivered to The Innocent one day when he is flying his kite. The self-discovery journey of The Innocent, who is miraculously transferred to a bizarre but exotic world, is followed in KOOZA under the watchful eye of an enigmatic trickster with remarkable abilities.

The tents are set up on the corner of Lakeshore Blvd W and Park Lawn Road.

There are lots of photo opps ... here we are!

I never have any idea what the stories are about (ha!) but I still enjoy the shows. This one was cute and funny and the acrobats were amazing!

Here are the performers at the end ...

“Kurios Cabinet of Curiosities”, Cirque Du Soliel, Toronto, ON

Yelp Toronto was giving out tickets to Elite Yelpers for tonight’s dress rehearsal of Cirque Du Soliel Kurios Cabinet of Curiosities. I was lucky enough to get a pair and Gord and I went.

Step into the curio cabinet of an ambitious inventor who defies the laws of time, space and dimension in order to reinvent everything around him. Suddenly, the visible becomes invisible, perspectives are transformed, and the world is literally turned upside down.

It opens tomorrow under the Big Top at Ontario Place. This is the third time I’ve seen it (I saw it twice when it was here in 2014).

I still had no idea what the story was about but that didn't matter ... the show was really good. There is a large cast and there is always something going on ... there is lots of acrobatics, balancing, singing, clapping, laughs and more.

"Alegría in a New Light", Cirque du Soleil, Toronto, ON

I saw Cirque du Soleil's Alegría in a New Light this evening ... it was a work event.  Gord and I had seen it a couple weeks ago.  It's playing not far from us in a tent at Ontario Place.  It's celebrating its 25th anniversary with a revamped version.

Beloved by fans around the world, iconic Alegría is reinterpreted in a renewed version to share its timeless story once more. The classic power struggle of old meets new is reinterpreted for today’s cultural pulse. Led by an intangible wind of change, an emerging movement strives to shake the established order, instilling hope and renewal to bring light to a world in perfect harmony. Alegría energizes the audience with a joyful spirit for a brighter and more inspiring tomorrow.

For an hour before the show, there was a reception with drinks and appies.

Me, Baljeet and Maria

Then we went into the tent to watch the show.

"VOLTA", Cirque du Soleil, Toronto, ON

Gord and I saw Cirque du Soleil's VOLTA - Find Your Free tonight.

Freedom is the ultimate rush

VOLTA tells a spellbinding story about the freedom to choose and the thrill of blazing your own trail. Inspired in part by the adventurous spirit that fuels the culture of action sports, the show weaves acrobatics in a visually striking world driven by a stirring melodic score.

VOLTA is a story of transformation. It is about being true to oneself, fulfilling one’s true potential, and the power of the group to make that possible. It celebrates freedom as a movement.

WAZ, a popular gameshow host, has lost touch with his inner self in the pursuit of fame. But as doubt sets in, WAZ is enlightened by childhood memories as he encounters FREE SPIRITS who open doors to his inner soul he has long kept shut. On his high-voltage search for meaning, will WAZ find the courage to relinquish his fame, reconnect with his true self, and shine bright?

It takes place in a tent that has been set up in a parking lot by the east end of Toronto Harbour.

Gord

There are lots of souvenirs you can buy at the Cirque Shop in the lobby, along with drinks and snacks.

Here's the stage from our seats before it started.  We were in section 200, in the middle of the row.  I like being a bit higher up with Cirque shows so I can see everything.

This is the fourth Cirque show I've seen (I've seen six in total ... I saw two twice).  Usually I have no idea what the story is about but that doesn't matter because the shows are amazing.  This time, though, I did understand the story as it was unfolding.

There is a large cast and there is always something going on.  There are BMX biker riders, a bike and ballet duo, rope skipping, acrobatic ladders and more.

Gord and I both enjoyed it.

The show just started on Thursday and runs 'til November 26 ... you should check it out!

"LUZIA - A Waking Dream of Mexico", Cirque du Soleil, Toronto, ON

The company I work for hosted a VIP night tonight for our clients and intermediaries to see Cirque du Soleil's LUZIA - A Waking Dream of Mexico.  There was an extra ticket and I was asked if I wanted to go ... shah!  Gord and I had seen it last month and enjoyed it so I didn't mind seeing it again.

Discover LUZIA, where a waking dream transports you to an imaginary Mexico. Experience a wondrous world that inspires you to explore your senses, enveloped in light and nurtured by rain.

It takes place in a tent that has been set up in a parking lot by the east end of Toronto Harbour.

When we entered, there was a photographer waiting to take our pictures.

My colleague, Baljeet, and I

There was also a woman wearing a steel skirt with champagne glasses.  Servers walked around with appies and later during the intermission roasted marshmallow ice cream and cream puffs.

Gord and I had sat in the second level in the centre ... great seats!  Tonight our seats were right up by the stage ... my seat was in the third row in the centre.  While it was fun to be so close ... so close I could see facial expressions ... I would rather be further back in the seats Gord and I had because we could see the whole stage.

I stood up to take this picture

We were given a gift bag with a book, a CD and a handkerchief.

I still had no idea what the story was about (I never do with Cirque) but that didn't matter ... the show even the second time around was amazing.  There is a large cast and there is always something going on.  There are lots of acrobatics, balancing, hoop divers, juggling, singing, laughs (the clown was funny throughout the show trying to get water for his canteen), a contortionist (he was freaky!) and more.  With this show, there was a rotating rain machine which was cool.

It was definitely worth seeing the second time.

Some birds came out with watering cans to entertain before the show started.
