Spring Rolls, Toronto, ON

Before our Photo 101 class this evening, Gord and I met at Spring Rolls (Church Street/Queen W) for supper.

I'm assuming it's fairly new because I can't find this location on their website.

It's nice inside. We were the only ones the whole time we were there.

Gord started with a couple spring rolls. This is the menu ...

This is what they actually looked like. He liked them.

He also ordered Sauteed Black Bean Chicken.

There was lots so he took half in a "to-go" box for his lunch tomorrow. He said it was good, not great.

I ordered their Famous Pad Thai with chicken, but minus the egg, sprouts and tofu. Here's what it looked like in the menu.

Here's what it looked like. It was okay, not great. It was sweet ... there was no hint of heat as indicated by the pepper in front of the name on the menu.

Considering we were the only two in the place, the service wasn't great. I had to ask for my Diet Coke a couple times. Though pleasant enough, our server was unengaged and didn't seem to want to be there.

I won't be rushing back.

Spring Rolls, Toronto, ON

I had lunch today with my pals, Eduardo and Louise, at Spring Rolls at Eglinton/Yonge.

The three of us worked together in 1998-99 (Louise is still with the company) and have lunch every three months to catch up.

I ordered Sauteed Szechuan Sauce Chicken (chili bean paste and Chinese five spice with rice).

Eduardo ordered the Authentic Famous Pad Thai with chicken (Thai rice noodles in lime juice, tamarind and tomato sauce, served w/ tofu, egg, roasted peanuts, bean sprouts and coriander).

Louise ordered Vegetarian Curry Pad Thai (Thai rice noodles in house curry sauce w/ peanuts served w/ tofu, egg, roasted peanuts, bean sprouts and coriander).

And here we are ... Eduardo, Louise and I.

As always, it was great to see them!

I'm very jealous as Eduardo and his partner, Steve, are heading to New Zealand for five weeks in February. Have fun!

Spring Rolls, Toronto, ON

I worked with Eduardo and Louise in 1998 ... and we still get together every three or four months for lunch.

Their office was just a couple blocks from my home and we would meet at Island Foods, which is where we always went when we worked together (it's in the 'hood). Their chicken rotis rock!

On the day I started my job in August, their offices moved ... ironically just two subway stops from my office. Yay!

We met for lunch today at Spring Rolls.

Eduardo had a Thai Iced Tea ... doesn't it look yummy?!

Here are Louise and I ...

And here are the three of us ...

I had Sweet and Sour Chicken (lightly breaded chicken breast glazed w/ sweet and sour sauce, pineapple and bell peppers) ...

Eduardo ordered a Bento Box ...

Louise is vegetarian and had Thai Green Curry (green curry paste w/ coconut milk cooked w/ fresh herbs, eggplants, tofu & mixed vegetables served w/ rice) ...

It was great to see them and catch up!
