Chocolate Illusions Workshop: Pizza Edition, QUEST XO Chocolate, Toronto, ON

I spent the evening at the two hour inaugural two hour Chocolate Illusions Workshop: Pizza Edition workshop at QUEST XO Chocolate in Liberty Village ... what a fun time! I've done three other workshops at Quest.

“The only time pineapple belongs on pizza. Some people make chocolate bars. We’re making pizza. Or at least we’re pretending to.

In this wildly misleading workshop, you’ll transform chocolate, crispy rice cereal, candy and edible decorations into a surprisingly realistic slice of pizza that’s guaranteed to confuse at least one person in your life.

We’re talking gooey ‘cheese’, golden ‘crust’, colourful toppings and just enough deception to make someone question everything they know.

Is it pizza? No. Will someone think it’s pizza? Absolutely. You’ll sculpt, decorate and assemble your slice before packaging it in an adorable mini pizza box that makes the illusion even more convincing.”

The cocoa paints need to stay on the heated tray so they don't get hard.

Quest, the owner, was our instructor.

I thought we’d be starting with a pizza slice-shaped piece of chocolate and decorating it. No! We built and decorated the pizza slice from scratch. Warm molded Rice Krispie Squares were the base.

Soft moldable chocolate was the crust. 

Then it was painted with white chocolate and put in the freezer. 

Once it spent time in the freezer, I painted it the “cheese” and “crust”.

Then I put the toppings on. There were lots to choose from ... I choose pepperoni (red licorice), peppers (gummy worms), extra mozzarella cheese (shredded coconut) and chicken (sesame sticks which wouldn’t stick so I ate them!).

Ta da!

We took them home in cute small pizza boxes.
