Salsa on St. Clair Street Festival, Toronto, ON

Gord and I went to the Salsa on St. Clair Street Festival this afternoon ... we'd never been.

TLN Telelatino heats up this summer with our 9th annual Salsa on St Clair street festival!

TLN Telelatino, the Hillcrest Village BIA and the City of Toronto have once again joined forces to present Canada's largest Latino-themed street festival which has attracted millions of salsa lovers to the streets of Toronto since its launch in 2005.

St. Clair Avenue West will be transformed into a showcase of Latin Life where live music, dance lessons, fiery food and family fun take over the street.

Come light up the streets, our 2013 Salsa on St Clair festival promises to be CALIENTE!

St. Clair Avenue W is closed from Winona Drive to Christie Street today and tomorrow.

We got there about 2pm and it wasn't too crowded.  This is looking eastward.

Samba Squad was playing at Hot Spot A, the most west entertainment venue, when we arrived.  They were good!

There were lots of booths where you could buy food and goods.

How could we not buy the best churros in town?!

I got a glazed churro and a choco churro.

Gord got three plain ones.

They were okay ... we've had better. Then we discovered that all the stands claimed to have the best churros in town!

There was lots you could buy to eat!

Free samples of churros from another vendor ...
they were better the ones we'd bought.

The music and dancing was great!  Lots of places were giving free dance lessons.

You could buy souvenirs.

There were rides for the kids.

To get out of the sun and have a cold drink, we stopped in Piper's Pub.  We ended up having a few beer and watched the Honda Indy race.

This guy was really getting into the spirit.

It had gotten crowded as we were leaving and there were line-ups for food.

You can see how much more crowded it was about 6pm when we left.

It was a fun festival.  I'd go again next year but early like we did today before it gets too crowded.

I love festivals like this. We don't have enough of them around here.

We thought about going - we're just north of there - but after running a few errands with the entire family we ended up at Christie just south of St. Clair at Fiesta Farms looking for fresh produce then decided it was in our best interest to get the kids home so they could nap.

My biggest worry was that it would be too crowded but after seeing your picture I think we should have parked and walked over, at least for a bit.
