Update - Former site of Famous PEOPLE Players, Toronto, ON

Here's an update on the former site of the Famous PEOPLE Players building and the building behind it, which were in our 'hood.

Famous PEOPLE Players was founded in 1974 in the spirit of personal development and team achievement. It began with a theatrical black light show in Toronto that was stunning in its visual effect.

Liberace discovered Famous PEOPLE Players in 1975 and hired the troupe to open for him in Las Vegas. From 1975 to 1985, Famous PEOPLE Players toured with this entertainer, winning rave reviews that inspired the world. These achievements resulted in a CBS Emmy Award winning movie called "Special People".

Meanwhile, in Toronto, the show and the restaurant flourished, attracting groups from far and wide, international visitors, celebrity benefactors and continuing acclaim.

This was the Famous PEOPLE Players building in September 2009.

These industrial units housed businesses ran north right behind it ...

The buildings were knocked down in August 2010 and they started clearing and building right away.

By the beginning of 2012, there was a building.  Here it was on January 5, 2012.

Here it was on February 20, 2012.

Here it is today.  No doubt the owners of the condos will be moving in soon.  It should be interesting to see what retail goes in on the ground floor.

Crazy! I worked there in the mid-90s and the transformation the neighbourhood has gone through is unbelievable. I remember walking down to King Street to grab lunch near Liberty Village (which was mostly old factories and a few converted lofts) and Sudbury Street south of FPP looked like a post-apocalyptic wasteland.

What a difference ten years makes!
