Labour Day parade

Gord and I went to Queen Star Restaurant for breakfast this morning.

When we were leaving, we saw the Labour Day parade coming along Queen Street W and stayed to watch it.

Labour Day has been celebrated on the first Monday in September in Canada since the 1880s. The origins of Labour Day in Canada can be traced back to April 14, 1872 when a parade was staged in support of the Toronto Typographical Union's strike for a 58-hour work-week.

The police had the throughway streets blocked off.

The parade was two hours long. My favourite parts were the bands, especially Scottish bands and steel drum bands.

The street cleaners were right behind the parade to clean up.

Hi Teena, linked to you through I am the Walrus. Noticed you were from Toronto. I'm from Ajax but work downtown. Just had to send you an email but it doesn't link properly so I sent you an email from my Google account. Morgan looks EXACTLY like my Widget. I've sent you a pic. That's too funny!
I hope you've had a good weekend despite the weather....
Always fun to link up with someone in the "neighbourhood".

First I keep forgetting to tell you I love the new look - brilliant.
Second, the parade sounds fun - and long! Two hours? wow!
Still, it looks like it was fun - I love the pipers.
