High Park Zoo

After our walk in High Park this morning, KC and I walked through the zoo that is in the Park.

It's not a big zoo but there's a nice variety of animals.

Keep in mind that KC is a city dog and had never seen animals like this before. She growled at the wallaby and here she is mesmorized by the yaks.

High Park

KC and I went to High Park this morning (it's a 15 minute drive west of us). We were there for about two hours and had a great time!

We parked just east of the zoo. High Park spans 399 acres and we walked along the perimeter of the Park. We headed south towards the Queensway and then following Grenadier Pond.

You can catch the train for a tour if you want.

We followed the West Ravine Nature Trails.

KC found the plant that she loves and grazed for a bit.

Except for the far off sounds of traffic, you'd never know that we were in the middle of Canada's largest city!

It's hard to believe that at the top of this trail is one of Toronto's busiest streets, Bloor Street W!

See ... I told you!

I used to live in the apartment complex in the back (the beige buildings) for five years before I moved to where I live now in June 2001.

We walked along Bloor Street W.

Then we went back into the woods again and followed the Spring Creek Nature Trails.

We came across doggy hill.

And Dream in the Park, an outside theatre that puts on Shakespeare plays every summer.

Back on the trail again.

KC is still lively after our long walk.

Nap time

Competitions can tire you out!

Gord came second in a fencing tournament this morning. Yay, Gord!

And KC was in a liver treat bobbing contest.

And now they nap.

First Annual Dog Day of Summer event

KC and I walked over to Trinity Bellwoods Park (Queen W/Strachan - a 20 minute walk for us) to check out the First Annual Dog Day of Summer event.

We got there a bit early so KC could have fun running around her fav park!

Our neighbour, Bailey, and his mom, Leanne, were there.

Leanne is a member of the park's Dog Association Committee and was volunteering at one of the tables. It looks like Bailey was a big help!

I bought some raffle tix ... hopefully I'll win some grooming for KC.

There were lots of dogs in the pit where the event was, which is where they filmed some of the movie Dog Park.

Here's KC sporting a stylish bandara.

Despite the rain, there was a liver treat bobbing contest. Bailey won his round.

KC participated too ... but the water in the bowl freaked her out. She needed my help getting them.

It came down to Bailey and a Dashund in the finals. After two ties, the Dashund won a $100 gift certificate for obedience lessons.

One of the vets where we take KC was speaking when we left.

It was a fun event which I hope becomes an annual event. Hopefully the weather will be better ... it was 15C and raining today.

Green Thumb Sunday

Did you play?

I don't think my brandy wine tomatoes are going to amount to much ... but hopefully the heavy rain we've been getting with help. Here they are this morning.

"Lauchie, Liza and Rory", SummerWorks, Factory Theatre, Toronto, ON

Gord and I saw "Lauchie, Liza and Rory" this afternoon at the Factory Theatre (Bathurst/Adelaide W). It's part of the Summer Works Theatre Festival.

A whimsical comedy about loyalty and misplaced love set in 1940s Cape Breton and centers around Lauchie and Rory Macdonald, identical twins who share a love for the same woman, Liza. A short story, artfully adapted by Sheldon Currie (the movie Margaret's Museum is based on one of his stories), ingeniously staged by Mary Colin Chisholm.

There are just two actors in the play skillfully playing the parts of eight characters.

Sheldon Currie was an English prof of mine at St. F.X.U. in Antigonish, NS. I had taken one of his courses in 1983, the year I graduated.

I saw Sheldon in the audience today so I said hello. He didn't remember me but it was nice to see him nonetheless. He's retired now and still living in Nova Scotia.

Fruity goodness

I love fruit.

It's good for you.

Why don't I eat more of it?

I dunno!

So I bought a bunch of fruit yesterday, put 'em in a bowl and have the bowl easily accessible on the counter.
