Marina Grille, Toronto, ON

Gord and I had a late lunch at the Marina Grille at Ontario Place this afternoon.

We sat on the patio and had a lovely view of the boats.

Here's Gord.

I ordered wings and fries ... the wings are big and good and I couldn't finish my fries.

Gord had a chicken club sandwich (minus the tomato) and fries and he thought it was good.

Our server was Wes and he took really good of us.

Now that it's free to get into Ontario Place this summer I can see us sitting on the patio for a meal or two again.

We're making progress ...

After sulking in my bedroom closet all day, look who finally came out ... Morgan!

Crumpet was still on the back of the couch and wasn't overly concerned.

I bought Crumpet some soft kitten food this morning. I also bought Morgan some soft adult light food. I figured the way to get Morgan to interact with Crumpet was through food ... and I was right.

I gave them some soft food for supper ... this is the closest they've been since we brought Crumpet home last evening because Morgan's been hiding and sulking.

Then Morgan went to Crumpet's plate to help her.

Then Crumpet checked out Morgan's plate (fair is fair).

Then Morgan went back to our bedroom but is snoozing on our bed rather than hiding in our closet.

Things are getting better ... yay!

Nap time!

Crumpet is a ball of energy ... go go go!

Then she crashes.

I think she likes it here :)

First night with Crumpet

Morgan likes to sleep on our bed at/on our feet. And that's where he was when I went to bed last night (Gord has gone to bed earlier).

I brought Crumpet in with me and she snuggled in between Gord and I.

Morgan was still sulking and took off.

Alexandra, Crumpet's foster mom, had said that Crumpet liked to sleep behind her head on her pillow.

And sure, enough, that's where she spent most of the night. Every time I woke up and asked where she was, Gord's response was that she was behind his head.

Here are Gord and Crumpet this morning when I woke up.

Morgan spent the night sleeping in my closet. Don't feel bad for him since he had piles of Tshirts to sleep on.

When I fed Crumpet some soft kitty food this morning, that brought Morgan out to help clean the plate.

Introducing Crumpet

I checked out the Annex Cat Rescue, I took a look at the kitties and Gigi caught my eye.

And guess who became part of our family today?

Gigi!

Her foster mom, Alexandra, was nice enough to allow us meet her this evening.

We've renamed her Crumpet. She is nine weeks old and weighs just over 1.5 pounds. She's so cute!

I wasn't sure how Morgan was going to react so I was going to take it slowly and carefully. I figured he'd be pissed off. When we got home, he took off into our bedroom.

Crumpet started off discovering her new home right away. She seems to really like my laptop.

She had a bite to eat.

She and Gord are getting along well (see how small she is!).

I'm one of the cool kids!

When Gord and I got married nine years ago, we both had big old TVs which we'd bought way before we even knew each other.

We put one in the living room ...

And we put one in the spare room ...

We said we'd buy a cooler flat screen TV when one of these died.

I'd drooled over the flat screen TVs at The Source at the Dufferin Mall many many times.

Our old TVs are not going to die ... I couldn't wait any longer!

Look what I bought this afternoon ...

A 46 inch flat screen TV!

Whooohoo!

The TV that was in our living room is now in our bedroom.

I didn't tell Gord what I'd done. My Facebook status said, "I finally did it. Yep, I'm one of the cool kids."

When Gord came home, he kept asking me what I'd done and I kept telling him I'd tell him later.

He was home for about an hour before he realized we now had a new TV! Ha!

Book ~ "The Sabbides Secret Baby" (2010) Jacqueline Baird

From Amazon ~ Naive Phoebe Brown fell for Mediterranean magnate Jed Sabbides after he wined, dined and bedded her with a fervour that made her feel cherished. But when Phoebe happily announced she was pregnant Jed was appalled. Didn't she understand - she was only a pleasing distraction? Sadly Phoebe lost the man she loved and her baby. So it is with disbelief that, years later, Jed discovers Phoebe has a little boy ... who looks just like him!

I don't usually read Harlequin-type books and downloaded this from somewhere on my Kobo for free.

This story was really bad. Phoebe is beyond "naive" ... she's a doormat. Jed is a huge A-hole and treats her so coldly yet she adores him.

When she tells him that she is pregnant, she expects him to be as deliriously happy as she is. But he's not (what a surprise!). She loses the baby later that day and as a result of some misunderstandings (again, what a surprise!), she disappears out of his life ... and he doesn't try to find her.

Five years later, they meet again at a gala. Suspecting that she is hiding something, he digs into her past and discovers that she had his son (she'd been pregnant with twins and she had miscarried one). Gasp!

He bullies his way into her life and confronts her and seduces her that night ... she can't resist him. Um ... okay. She hates him (sure she does!) and within a week, they are married. With nine pages 'til the end, he admits he loves her and has always loved her. Um ... okay.

Just too silly and unbelievable for me. I dunno why I kept reading 'til the end ...

Toronto Yelp Party

Gord is a Yelper and I'm an Elite Yelper.

Tonight was Yelp's Magic 8 Ball event at Hotel Ocho (Spadina/Queen W), which Gord and I attended.

Everything was complimentary ... food and drinks.

There were drinks made with bourbon to greet us.

There was a photobooth so, of course, Gord and I had to go in!

There was swag ...

There was a lesson in bourbon which I participated in.

These cookies made by Butter Avenue were delicious! My fav was the raspberry.

Pop Chips was giving out chips ... they were yummy!

There were lot of appetizers. Gord liked the coconut shrimp.

The venue was really nice. It's a recently renovated hotel.

There were about 200 in attendance.

Here are Gord and Vivek, our Toronto Yelp Ambassador.

Palm Bay was serving coolers ... and I liked them!

I tried all four flavours and my favourite was the Ruby Grapefruit Sunrise.

Here's Gord with my new Palm Bay friend.

Gord enjoyed Bloody Caesars made with Bakon vodka.

The vodka apparently is bacon flavoured (hence the name).

About 9pm, Falcon started playing tunes ... they were good.

Then Vivek thanked everyone for coming.

Elite Yelpers were given a goody bag.

One bag had a coupon for a free night's stay at the Hotel Ocho ... alas, it wasn't in my bag :(

I've been Yelping since July 2010 and this was my first event. It was really well-organized and a lot of fun!

Good job, Vivek! I can't wait for the next one!

Divino, Toronto, ON

A new employee in our department who works in our Montreal office is in town today and tomorrow for training and to get to know us.

We took her out for lunch (there were seven of us in total) at Divino (Yonge/St. Clair Avenue W). It is in the old Terroni space (I'm not a fan of Terroni) and opened in April.

We ordered appetizers. The bruschetta was fresh and the cured meat/world cheese appetizer seemed to be enjoyed.

There was quite a selection of interesting pizzas and pastas on the menu. I ordered pepperoni pizza with mozzarella cheese and fresh basil.

My pizza was good.

We all ordered pizzas. Others at the table had ingredients like shrimp, peppers, chicken, mushroom, walnuts, olives, etc. on their pizzas.

The servers were friendly and a lot of fun. They were very attentive and made sure we had lots of water and pop.
