Viewing Party: Toronto Wolfpack vs. St. Helens RFC, Northern Maverick Brewing Co., Toronto, ON

Gord and I had lunch today at Northern Maverick Brewing Co. (on Bathurst Street just north of King Street W) ... they were hosting the viewing party of the Toronto Wolfpack vs. St. Helens RFC game in Warrington.  It was Round five of the 2020 Betfred Super League.  The Wolfpack was last in Super League with no wins or ties and four losses.

There was a good crowd.  The lower level holds about 200 people and it was fairly full with Wolfpack fans ... it's a good thing Gord made reservations!  There was a Wolfpack owner and execs in attendance.

13 ounce lagers were $5.

Toronto Wolfpack 24, Featherstone Rovers 6, Lamport Stadium, Toronto, ON

The Toronto Wolfpack RLFC is a Canadian professional rugby league club, based in here Toronto, which competes in the British Rugby Football League system.  In 2018, the club competed in the Championship, having begun to play in 2017 in League 1 and won a promotion in its inaugural season.  Gord and I have been going to the most of the games since 2017 and have been season ticket holders for the last two years.

The club is noted as being the first North American team to play in the Rugby Football League system, the first fully professional rugby league team in Canada and the world's first transatlantic rugby league team.  Their home stadium is Lamport Stadium (aka "The Den"), which is just a couple blocks from where Gord and I live.

Today was the "Million Pound Game" and the Wolfpack were playing the Featherstone Rovers.  This was the last game of the season and whoever won today's game would advance to the Super League.  The Wolfpack was in the same position last year playing against London ... alas, London won.  Fingers crossed for a better result today.  Go Wolfpack, go!

It was sunny but chilly ... 55F/12C (but felt like 50F/10C).

Here are Gord and I ...

There were lots of Wolfpack fans in the crowd ...

Today the was the first game of the playoffs and the Wolfpack were playing the Toulouse Olympique.  If the Wolfpack won, their next game would be the final on October 5.  If the Wolfpack lost, they would have to play next Sunday and if they won, they'd play in the final on October 5.  Whoever wins moves up to the Super League.  Needless to say, we were all hoping they'd win.

Here are me and Gord.

The theme of the day was 90s ... can you tell that Zach is a fan?

Penny, Sue and Gord had manicure and pedicures in support of the Wolfpack!

During the week, the Wolfpack sent out an email inviting season ticket holders to renew for the 2020.  As an added incentive, the first 100 to renew would receive a free jersey.  Gord and I renewed right away and here we are in our free jerseys.  Thanks, Wolfpack!

Can you tell that Zach is a fan?

Gordo was being of a shit disturber.

The guitar player who riffs when the Wolfpack scores was also outside the stadium.

It was Forces and Families Day and members of the Canadian Forces were there.

Gord had some family stuff to take care of so I went solo.

Today the Wolfpack were playing the Halifax RLFC.

It was hot and humid for most of the game ... (28C and 37C with the humidity!).  There is zero shade at Lamport Stadium.  The sun came in and out and there was some rain for a short time but the humidity didn't go away.

After years of having a crappy scoreboard, the City of Toronto (the owner of Lamport Stadium) replaced it last week.  That was pretty exciting!

Here are Gord and I ...

The theme today was Superhero Day at the Den!

Not all heroes wear capes but they are usually the first to respond when we need them. The Pack has teamed up with GTA First Responders to show our appreciation for the men and women of the GTA who dedicate their lives to responding to emergencies.

Gordo was out and about before the game.

There was an uninvited guest before the game.  It started heading to the Wolfpack dressing room before it was veered off towards one of the exits.
