In October 2010, I got the first generation Kobo eReader. Since I read a lot, once I got used to it, I loved it! It was nothing fancy ... the books were black 'n white and there was no WIFI, etc. The battery lasted for a long time ... about two weeks.
In November 2011, even though there was nothing wrong with my Kobo, I bought a hot pink Kobo Vox. It was quite a cool upgrade! The books are in colour and there is WIFI so I can check emails and Facebook. There were some things I don't like about it, though:
- Even when it's fully charged, it doesn't come on all the time. I have to plug it in to snap it into coming on. I'm not always near a power outlet (like on a plane or in a restaurant) so this leaves me with nothing to read which is annoying.
- It drops books for no reason so then I have to go back and reload the ones that have disappeared.
- It doesn't stay charged for very long. It runs out of power after about four hours (and I have the WIFI turned off and the display dimmed). When I'm reading it near a power source, I have it plugged in. If I have been reading for a while, I plug it in right away to recharge.
I noticed lately that I have to jingle the cord where it plugs into the Kobo so it charges.
Today I bought a black Kobo Arc. In concept, it's similar to the Vox but from what I've read and heard, they fixed all that was wrong with the Vox.
I had debated whether to buy an Arc or a Mini iPad. The difference in price aside ($150!!), what I determined was that the Arc is better if I want an ereader and a mini iPad is better if having an ereader is less important than gaming, videos, etc.
I like that the battery is supposed to last for ten hours of reading. There is a headphone jack (the Vox surprisingly didn't have a one) and a camera, a couple features I doubt I'll use much but nice to have.
I am surprised that it didn't come with the cord to transfer epubs from my laptop to the Arc (it just came with the plug). Luckily the one from the Vox works.
I read books from Netgalley. In the past I would download the DRM files to my laptop into Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) and then manually copy them onto my Kobo. ADE isn't recognizing the Arc, though. I just discovered that I can download them directly onto my Arc, bypassing the laptop. I just tried it on my Kobo Vox and I can do it there too. Duh!!!
March 3 update - I love love love my Arc!

I've never even heard of this one. We have a Kindle and we're really happy with it.
I just thought of something regarding ADE, and it not working, I will email you once I am done feeding the little one lunch... In a few.
I have a koboglo that I got in October and just started using. I like it and have had no problems with it. Good luck :)
