This is what one of the corners in my 'hood used to look like.
The Fairgrieve building ...

With
Famous PEOPLE Players next door (to the west) ...

Industrial units ran north behind Famous PEOPLE Players ...

Famous PEOPLE Players and the blue building were knocked down in
August and the Fairgrieve building was knocked down earlier
this month.
Here's what the corner looked like this afternoon ... strange to see such an empty corner.

This apartment building (the "Essex") is just north of where the Fairgrieve building used to be.

Until last summer, it was a pink crackhouse called "Casa Stefania". It was renovated and now they charge $2000 an apartment.
Here's the sideview of the Essex. I guess they didn't see any sense in fixing up the sides since the Fairgrieve building was only five feet away.

Considering the Fairgrieve building was built in 1885, the residents of the Essex must be rejoicing in having the sudden light coming in their south windows. It's interesting to note that four windows in in the Essex (two upper and two lower in the back) look like they have been blocked up for many years. I imagine they are the bathroom and bedroom.

Seeing things change right before your eyes is fascinating isnt it? I went "home" to Utah after being gone 7 years and I was amazed at the differences.
