We live in a condo in townhouses ... there are 180 units in three buildings which take up the south side of our street.
Because of the size of the units, a lot of the residents are transient ... they sell after a couple years to get something bigger. So I don't get a chance to know everyone before they are gone.
There are some dogs that have been here for a while ... Grace was one of them. Here she is in 2008 on her fifth birthday ...
Gracie was a Great Dane ... and a great girl!
She was very friendly and big (100+ pounds). She would lean against me while I patted her and practically knock me over sometimes.
Her owners discovered yesterday that she had advanced cancer in her spleen and was bleeding internal.
I ran into Gracie along with her owners and friends this morning as they were taking her on her last walk around the property before going to the vets. She looked great ... I couldn't tell she was ill.
Very sad ... I'll miss her.

Oh how sad. She looks like a stunning dog, it's unfortunate animals lives are so short compared to ours.
Beautiful dog! So sad that her time has come.....
Teena -- that is so sad. She looks like a beautiful dog.
I enjoyed meeting Gracie. She was a beautiful and friendly dog. I'm sorry to hear this bad news about her and to know that her owners are going through this difficult time.
How sad - looks so nice and trustful in the picture.
What a beautiful girl! I can't imagine what her owners are going through. My thoughts are with them... I am in tears right now because I know how animals are just as much family as human relatives are.
