A potato secret?

I am doing a contract teaching a client's employees over six weeks. Last week it was Word, this week it's Excel.

There are four groups ... Monday is group 1, Tuesday is group 2, Wednesday is group 3 and Friday is group 4.

There are cooks in the groups. I mentioned on Wednesday that I love Portuguese potatoes but didn't know how to make them.

Rob, a cook, said to boil small round potatoes (from the produce department not a can), a can of crushed tomatoes and the juice of lemon.

I put them in the crockpot this morning around 7:00, figuring they would be ready for supper.

At 5:00 when I got home, they were still hard.

I boiled them on the stove for another hour.

Though they are tasty, they are still hard.

I've never used small round potatoes before ... is there a secret?

Did you use water too?
I just made mashed potatoes with new red potatoes (small and round) and they cooked within 18 minutes. Hmmm.

I don't know why they would not cook. I always look for videos on You Tube to see how people cook stuff. Maybe there is a video on cooking those kinds of potatoes.

Most of everything I find is you cook them in the oven to make them tender 400 degrees. I can't find anything about the tomato sauce on them.

I've never had them like that before. It looks good though.

i just made some of these lastnight! i boil mine until they are just almost done. then i put them in a plastic seal tight bag, with some course salt, little pepper, fresh garlic and butter and shake. put them in a casserole with no lid and roast for 30 minutes of so...
excellent.

I've never tried cooking with the small potatoes. I like what Raino suggested.

An hour boiling and still hard?
Sure you didn't get small round rocks?
I might try microwaving them for a bit and see if that helps.
I'm going to try the recipe myself.

Hmmmm. I wonder why they didn't cook? I usually put them in a pyrex dish with olive oil, oregano and salt, cook them in the toaster oven, and they turn out beautifully. It takes about :45 if I leave them whole, or :30 if I slice them in half. What temp did you cook at? I usually use 350F.
