Good-buy, teacher!

There's an article in today's Toronto Star called Good-buy, teacher!. It's about what to buy your child's teacher as a thank you gift at the end of the year.

I went to school in Nova Scotia (I graduated from high school in 1980) and I never gave my teachers anything at the end of the year. I never thought about it. My mother never bought anything to give to them ... she probably never thought about it either. And I don't remember any of my classmates giving teachers anything either. Maybe they did and I missed it??

Younger students give their teachers a gift on TV shows. And there's the McDonald's commercial where the two boys enthusiastically give their teacher half-eaten Chicken McNuggets.

Apparently in real life, all grades, from kindergarten to high school, give their teachers thank you gifts.

And I don't think it's a bad idea.

Did you give your teacher thank you gifts when you were in school? Do/did your children?

I never stayed in one school long enough to know anyone well enough to buy them a gift.

My children, however, do give gifts. The person who deals with them MORE than I do deserves an award, a trophy, at the very least, a pedicure!

I don't remember doing that either but it is huge now..my girlfriend who is a teacher takes home a huge
haul every Christmas and end of year...lots of stuff she never uses....

I never thought to give my teacher anything at the end of the year... now my friends are teachers and thinking how all those classroom decorations come out of their own pockets, i'm gonna have to pitch in a little extra on their bdays or something. Thanks for the idea.
